We have an introduction to make, and special request to all those who support our troops: as you think of all of our servicemen and women this holiday season, we ask that you include in your thoughts and prayers Captain Shaun Sullivan, one of Hugs for Heroes’ advisors, who will be deploying to Afghanistan soon.
Born in Bremerton, Washington to William and Donna Sullivan, Shaun, the son of a now-retired Master Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy, grew up in Washington, Florida, and Connecticut. He attended St. Bernard’s High School in Uncasville, CT, where he played on the hockey, soccer and lacrosse teams in addition to being a member of the honor society. Shaun went on to attend Northeastern University in Boston on an Army ROTC scholarship, graduating in 2007 with a B.S. in Athletic Training. Following Commissioning in the branch of Field Artillery, he completed the Basic Officer Leadership Course and Field Artillery Officer Basic Course in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He was then stationed at Fort Drum, New York in the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, serving as a company fire support officer in 4-31 Infantry Battalion and as a platoon leader in 2-15 Field Artillery Battalion.
In 2009, Shaun, now a 1st Lieutenant, deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom as a platoon leader. He served 8 months working with an Iraqi Federal Police Battalion in Baghdad, Iraq, during which he was promoted to Captain. Upon returning from Iraq, Shaun moved back to Fort Sill to complete the Field Artillery Captains Career Course, and then traveled to Fort Benning, GA for the U.S. Army Basic Airborne Course. Now a qualified paratrooper, CPT Sullivan was then assigned to 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division (Airborne) stationed in Fort Richardson, Alaska, and is currently preparing for deployment to Operation Enduring Freedom.
Join all of us at Hugs for Heroes, Inc. in thanking Captain Sullivan and the others in his unit as they prepare for this deployment for our great country. Hugs for Heroes, Inc. will be sending shipments to Captain Sullivan this holiday season and beyond. If you would like to offer your personal thanks to Captain Sullivan, be sure to tweet, post on Facebook or email us at info@hugsforheroes.com. You may also send handwritten thank you letters to Hugs for Heroes, Inc., P.O Box 572, Dover, MA 02030, and we will include them in our next shipment.
We want to keep Captain Sullivan and his unit in our thoughts and prayers always, and particularly during the holiday season. We hope he and his men can take comfort in knowing members of the community and others across our nation greatly appreciate their sacrifice and will be forever grateful for their service. Our thoughts and prayers also go out to Captain Sullivan’s family, especially at this time of year. We are thankful to them for bringing up an incredible young man who is so profoundly dedicated to his country.

Thank you to CPT Sullivan, our very own hero, for your service.
We know you’ll make us proud!

Stay safe !! We do appreciate all you and your men do for us. Have as good a holiday as possible since you’re not home. Keep mom and dad up to date when you can – she worries.
Let us know if you or your men need anything,
